Introduction to Accessibility Policies

Kicking off the series, this webinar presents a high-level overview of digital accessibility policies, including why they are important, what types of policies should be developed and what other organizational policies need digital accessibility components added in.

Phase 1: Accessibility Policy Development

This webinar defines the core digital accessibility policy documents that should be developed for the organization in Phase 1, including the Accessibility Policy, Accessibility Statement, Accessibility Issue Resolution Plan, Gap Analysis, and the Accessibility Compliance Program.

Phase 2: Accessibility Policy Operationalization

This webinar reviews Phase 2 activities, which include development of the Accessibility Communications Plan and Accessibility Training Plan.

Phase 3: Establishing Accessibility Standards

Phase 3 focuses on the creation of digital accessibility standards based on the previously developed policies. Key documents discussed will include the Accessibility Checklist and Accessibility Implementation Guides.

Phase 4: Accessibility Policy Implementation

Phase 4 of the digital accessibility policy development process defines a plan to implement the previously developed policies. Key documents discussed will include the Project Management Plan and Workflow Change Report.

Accessibility Policies and the Digital Accessibility Maturity Model

The final webinar looks at the intersection between digital accessibility policies and the Digital Accessibility Maturity Model (DAMM), focusing on the Policy and Standards dimension of DAMM, and where policies must be complete and fully implemented to satisfy DAMM requirements.

Sheri Byrne-Haber

For the last 11 years, Sheri Byrne-Haber has worked with individuals with disabilities to achieve equal access and reduce barriers to services. As an Accessibility Policy Analyst at SSB BART Group, Sheri is responsible for maintenance and extensions to SSB’s proprietary Digital Accessibility Maturity Model (DAMM), a concise method for measuring the development of accessibility programs. With a background in computer science and law combined with an ADA Coordinator Certification, Sheri consults organizations on the creation, modification, and implementation of accessibility compliance, auditing, and monitoring policies.
